That moment when you're clapping politely when the curator announces who won first place and you realize that the name they read out is YOURS!!!

Approximately 25 artists entered 60 entries and the jury selected "Garden Nosegay by Donna Wark" as the overall exhibition winner.  I'm extremely proud to have my piece chosen from a field of so many beautiful artworks.

Haldimand County's 23rd Annual Juried Art Exhibition will run until June 27th, 2019.

If you find yourself at McMaster University today, make your way over to the MSU Clubfest II, it's located in the MUSC Atrium and will be held from 10 am - 3 pm.

The English, Cultural Studies, and Critical Theory Society will have the book sculpture "Banfire" as part of their table display.    Stop by and take "viewing of a book sculpture" off of your 2016 "to do" list.  And, as an added bonus,  you'll also get to meet some fun and interesting ECC Society members!

Winter, Wellness, and a Workshop!

Winter...

Winter has finally arrived here in Southern Ontario and I couldn't resist sharing one of my favourite photos with you.    These are my great-great grandparents.   I'm not sure where they were going, but,  I'm delighted that there was a photographer present to capture this moment...

Wellness...

Many of you have been holding our family in your hearts as we deal with my moms lung cancer.  Mamma's been dealing with the disease for 18 months and in December she began a new drug trial treatment.

I'm fond of saying that she's in pretty good shape for the shape she's in.  Mamma still has her great attitude and was able to enjoy a lovely Christmas with the whole family...

And,  A Workshop...

An Unjust Trinity

Picture
This is the 2nd book sculpture that I have created for the ECC Society at McMaster University. The first "C" stand for "Cultural Studies" and the book sculpture "An Unjust Trinity" is my nod to it.

Since time began humans have excelled in going forth to conquer foreign lands to spread the name of their culture and their Gods. Too many times dictatorship and censorship have accompanied worship in these quests. Sadly, history has shown that it's no coincidence that only one letter separates "worship" from "war ship".

Bonus points to anyone that noticed that the pages used to create "Censor Ship" have been censored.

Attention All McMaster University Students!

11/10/2015

Today's project was a centrepiece for  McMaster University's ECC Society's Banned Book Formal.  If you're a Mac student (or know one!) you're invited!  It's on Friday November 20th, 2015 at 7 pm - midnight and tickets are still available.
Picture
What do the following titles have in common?

Slaughterhouse-Five...Lord of the Flies
...Jump Ship to Freedom...I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings...Captain Underpants...The Color Purple...Snow Falling on Cedars...One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest...The Kite Runner...Harry Potter...

Each one of them has been banned by a narrow minded public at some point in their literary lives.  The Banned Book Formal is  an excuse for McMaster University students (and their friends)  to come together, dance, nosh and celebrate that it's good to be banned!   Dressing up as your favourite banned book character is encouraged but not mandatory.

Tickets will be sold on November 3-19 for $10 before the event and $12 at the door (these will be limited).

From Monday to Friday you can buy your tickets from Antoinette Somo in CNH 327 from 8:30am-12:00pm. Or you can buy them from the execs Monday-Friday 1-2 (1-3 on Fridays) on the first floor of CNH by the elevators near the south entrance.

Email McMaster ECC Society for tickets or more details

eccs.mac@gmail.com

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to circumstances beyond their control the Banned Book Formal has been rescheduled to 2016.

Dunnville's River Arts Festival kicks off this Saturday!

The festival embraces all aspects of the arts and includes an art show that has local businesses playing the part of art gallery.  Artists can take up to 3 pieces for the show and if chosen they are displayed until November 21st.  Art lovers are encouraged to take a visual arts walking tour to view the exhibit.  It's a wonderful way to bring the arts and the community together.

Here are my entries...

I love the way Maggie's shadow adds movement to this sculpture.
If you live in the area, check out the schedule, there's something for everyone, young and old alike.
