The above is one of my favourite creations to date, I titled it "Sweet Nectar". I love how the folded pages offer random pops colour. The book and the hummingbird pages are from 1965 and the pages of the flower are from a 1940's novel.
Several weeks ago I entered it in the Four Points Contemporary Art Competition and yesterday I found out that I was one of the artists that had been given an Award of Excellence for their entry. The competition is juried and based out of Texas which means that I have won an international art award!
This is my 2nd award in the past 3 months and I am overwhelmed by the support I have found in the arts community. When I started "playing with paper" I never envisioned that this is where the path would lead, I am blessed with an extraordinary life, all because I'm naive enough to try different things.
I've heard it said that our tombstones hold two dates with a dash between them and that dash represents our time spent on this earth. These pieces I create are one of the many ways that I'm trying to make the most of my "dash". I encourage you to do something today that puts you on the path less travelled, try something that you've always wanted to do, take a chance. Remember to take the time to dance upon your dash
